Course Description: Environmental Science is a half semester course that will focus on numerous environmental topics including, but not limited to, ecosystems, populations, biodiversity, water, biomes, land, waste, renewable/nonrenewable energy, natural resources, human health, economics, and environmental policy. This course is the covered over the third and fourth nine weeks of the 9th grade year.
At the end of the course, those students who are academically eligible are given the opportunity to participate in a hands-on, research-based field trip that focuses on the local watershed and aquatic life. Students have the chance to take measurements (pH, conductivity, temperature, etc) of the local streams and AMD clean-up efforts. In addition, students are given a tour of the Sandy Run Landfill and water treatment plant.
Important Class Information:
All students and parents/guardians must carefully read and sign a copy of the Class Syllabus and Lab Safety Contract. A copy of each is provided below. Forms can be submitted to teacher in two ways. The student can hand in a signed hard copy OR the parent/guardian and student can submit an electronic copy. Please see below.
